In 1981, Garrett became the Training Manager at the Provo Post Office. He had to go to St. George, Utah for training for his new job, so we all went with him.
To make the five hour trip (slower in those days) easier on the kids, I planned rewards that they could earn if they could be nice to each other for a short time. They had books, cassette tapes with books, small games, coloring things, and treats. They got to choose their reward. It worked much better than me grouching at them most of the way.
Julene and David spent most of the afternoon in the motel’s small pool while Laura, a baby then, napped. We had lunch with Garrett and when his classes were done, we went out to visit the sights. We especially enjoyed Snow Canyon, Zions, and Brigham Young and Jacob Hamblin’s homes. It was a fun trip!
