Our History - 1974 Spring visit to see Garrett's Family

In the spring we drove in our small yellow gold Pinto four very long days to visit Garrett’s family in Akron, Ohio. Since I was six months pregnant, I was exhausted by the time we arrived at Cathy and Mel’s house. Julene was nine months old and played happily or napped in her small crib on the folded down seat behind us. (we didn’t have child restraint laws then) Ken flew out and joined us for a week. We loved introducing Julene to her Grandparents Merrick (John and Edith Merrick). We spent days interviewing Garrett’s relatives and recorded many family history stories. One our way home Garrett lost a contact lens. It was a very, very long drive home. Exhausted after the trip and with major headaches, I had to remain in bed for the rest of the pregnancy.
